Online Courses

The Playground is a Lilly Grant funded course by the Flagler College Center for Religion and Culture featuring a unique blend of documentary and teaching. These courses explore Womanist theology and childlike play, Sabbath as informed by regenerative agriculture, and Franciscan rhythms to daily life here and now. This series was a collaborative effort start to finish between myself and If So Studio.

We created 15 course episodes, over 2 hours of course content. We got to film dinner parties, sheep herds, theologians playing Jenga, and books from the 1600s. We love to dive into people’s world, and this project was just that. It was a joy to learn from Dr. Nate Stucky, Dr. Lakisha Lockhart, and Dr. Tim Johnson. It was an honor to animate Adeshola Makinde’s collage artwork and work with archival news footage of Bree Newsome ripping down a confederate flag in South Carolina. This is the first time we have fully co-created a project from start to finish, and we’re excited to do it again.

Special thanks to our Producer Kristen Maiocco, The Flagler Center for Religion and Culture, Justin Forbes, Carmelle Beaugelin Caldwell, The Farminary at Princeton Seminary, and The Katie Geneva Cannon Center for Womanist Leadership at Union Presbyterian Seminary.
